Early Life and Education

Tobias was born in New York, USA, grew up in Bonn, Germany and Vienna, Austria. Studied at Loughborough University where he was President of the Students Union. Completed an MBA at City University Business School.

Political Career

Tobias was Member of Parliament for Bournemouth East from May 2005 until July 2024. He was Foreign Minister with special responsibility for the Middle East and Africa from July 2014 until promoted to Minister of Defence in June 2017. From 2019 to 2023 he was Chairman of the Defence Select Committee.

Military Career

He spent six years in the Regular Army with The Royal Green Jackets and served in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Kuwait, Germany, Gibraltar and Bosnia. He now has the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as a reservist in the 77th Brigade
